We finally had a fun night out on the town! Wednesday night, we decided to check out a little venue called the Nottinghill Arts Club. It was just a short walk from our flat and the weather was actually quite nice. We arrived and took one look around and realized how much we stuck out haha. This was a bar for the hipsters. People that just oooze style and musical knowledge. We made our way to get a glass a wine and then to the stage. The first band was quite good. They were a little loud but overall were interesting to listen to. After their set the second band began to set up and when the singer began to introduce the band he told the crowd that this was their farewell gig because they had just got signed in the United States!!!! We were beyond excited to hear them play. And they did not disapoint! They were amazing!! We danced and cheered with everyone else as they went through their set. The guitarist was sensational. After they had finished everyone liked them so much that the Brits started yelling, "One bloody more, one bloody more!" Apparently this is like out encore and slow clap haha. It was hilarious. They came out and played one more and when they were tearing down. We got the attention of the guitarist and asked him where they were going to be playing in the States? He instantly figured out we were from the States and was so excited to hear we loved them! He was soo nice! Their tour is starting in the South and will actually end in Chicago where they are making their CD in a couple of weeks. They are on itunes if any of you want to check them out, they are called The Hoodoo Scoundrels!
The next part of that weekend was not quite as fun. We spend the evening in Piccadilly Circus which is like the Times Square of London. This is where I had my first negative interaction with a local. My blondness sticks out A LOT here. This Italian man ran up to me and my roommate Karen yelling, "BLONDE BLONDE!" He grabbed my face and kissed me on the cheek and professed his love for me.... Needless to say I was not impressed and we just kept walking. Overall the night was fine though, its cool to see the lights.
The next evening proved to be a ton of fun and good food! We found a restaurant that is owned by the Rolling Stones, Bill Wyman!! It's called Sticky Fingers and it is very, very close to American food. We had the most amazing burgers, it felt like home. The funniest part of this night is that between the 6 of us we finished a bottle of ketchup... haha. Apparently it is a very American thing to use a lot of Ketchup and the waitress did seem to judge us a bit when she took away the empty bottle.
This week marked the first week I actually felt like I was in school. We had our first paper due, which is why it has taken me so long to update. It went fine and everything is turned in. Today marks the beginning of another weekend with less work to worry about. Therefore, we will be having a great time and I'm sure I'll have much more to report very soon!
